Merchants

In PYMNT, a merchant represents a business or entity that is enabled to accept payments through the PLTFRMS ecosystem.

Merchants are the central link between payment activity and the underlying financial infrastructure. Every invoice, checkout, terminal transaction, or payout is associated with a merchant.

What is a merchant?

A merchant is a verified entity that can:

  • Accept online and in-person payments
  • Create invoices and hosted checkouts
  • Receive payouts and settlements
  • Operate under compliance and regulatory requirements

Each merchant is created and managed within PYMNT, and is connected to a PLTFRMS organisation.

Merchant lifecycle

A merchant typically goes through the following stages:

  • Created β€” merchant profile is initiated
  • Onboarding β€” required information is collected and verified
  • Under review β€” compliance and risk checks are performed
  • Active β€” merchant is approved and can process payments
  • Restricted / suspended β€” limited or paused due to compliance or risk reasons

Merchant capabilities

Once active, a merchant can use all supported PYMNT features, including:

  • Online invoices and payment links
  • Hosted checkout pages
  • Card terminals and Tap-to-Pay
  • Payout and settlement processing
  • Order and transaction management

Capabilities can vary depending on the merchant’s risk profile, region, and compliance status.

Organisation linkage

Every merchant is always linked to an organisation within PLTFRMS.

This ensures:

  • Clear separation between different businesses or clients
  • Centralised access control via accounts, roles, and groups
  • Structured management of multiple merchants under one platform

A single organisation may manage multiple merchants, depending on the use case.

Compliance and regulation

Merchants operate under a regulated financial framework in partnership with an accredited PSP and a licensed stichting derdengelden.

This ensures:

  • Proper handling and safeguarding of funds
  • Compliance with financial regulations
  • Separation of operational and financial responsibilities

All merchant activity is subject to ongoing monitoring and compliance checks.

Why merchants matter

Merchants are the foundation of the payment ecosystem in PYMNT.

They define:

  • Who can accept payments
  • How money flows through the system
  • How compliance and risk are applied
  • How financial operations are structured within PLTFRMS

Without merchants, no payment activity can exist within the platform.
