Tap-to-Pay

Tap-to-Pay in PYMNT enables merchants to accept in-person payments directly on supported devices without requiring traditional card terminals.

It turns compatible hardware (such as smartphones or terminals) into a payment acceptance point, allowing customers to pay by simply tapping their card or mobile wallet.

What is Tap-to-Pay?

Tap-to-Pay is a contactless payment method that uses NFC (Near Field Communication) to process transactions.

It allows merchants to:

  • Accept contactless card payments
  • Accept mobile wallet payments (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay)
  • Process payments without dedicated hardware terminals (depending on device support)

How it works

A typical Tap-to-Pay flow looks like this:

  1. A payment is initiated on a merchant device
  2. The customer taps their card or phone on the device
  3. The payment is securely processed via the PSP
  4. The result is returned instantly to the merchant system

All transactions are handled through the same PYMNT infrastructure used for invoices, checkouts, and terminals.

Supported environments

Tap-to-Pay can be enabled on:

  • Dedicated POS terminals integrated with PYMNT
  • Supported mobile devices with NFC capability
  • Partner hardware integrations (where applicable)

Availability may vary depending on region, device type, and compliance requirements.

Security and compliance

Tap-to-Pay transactions are processed through regulated payment infrastructure, including:

  • An accredited Payment Service Provider (PSP)
  • A licensed stichting derdengelden for safeguarding funds
  • PCI-compliant payment processing flows

This ensures that card data is never exposed to the merchant system and is securely handled end-to-end.

Integration with PYMNT

Tap-to-Pay is fully integrated into the PYMNT ecosystem.

It works alongside:

  • Merchants and onboarding flows
  • Terminals and POS systems
  • Invoices and orders
  • Payout and settlement processes

This allows both online and offline payments to be managed within a single platform.

Use cases

Tap-to-Pay is typically used for:

  • Physical retail environments
  • Pop-up stores and events
  • Mobile service providers
  • On-the-go payment collection

Why it matters

Tap-to-Pay removes the need for complex payment hardware setups and allows merchants to:

  • Start accepting payments faster
  • Reduce operational complexity
  • Use existing devices for payment acceptance
  • Offer a seamless customer experience
